Sustainable manufacturing
Turn green into gold
'Green' issues are playing an increasingly important role in individual purchasing decisions, with a growing majority of consumers willing to pay more for goods they regard as environmentally responsible. They are also firmly on the boardroom agenda, with 71% of CEOs agreeing that a sustainability programme is vital to the profitability of their company.
Companies on the road to sustainability need to develop a true understanding of the commercial benefits versus environmental and social impacts right across product life cycles, to find the right balance between consumer needs, technical feasibility and commercial reality. Done well, a commercial focus on sustainability will lead to bottom line savings, risk reduction and increased sales. |
PA can help you get ahead of the curve on sustainability in four key areas:
Turn sustainability strategy into implementation
Make better decisions with a true understanding of the balance between cost/benefit and sustainability impact.
Companies need to understand what sustainability means in the context of competitors, markets and commercial realities.
PA’s unique methodology will help you visualise the impact of different strategic options by evaluating the balance between quantifiable complex trade-offs and qualitative factors such as stakeholder perception.
Developing ‘greener’ products
Improve the sustainability of your product portfolios through new processes, technology or procurement changes.
Greener products and processes will fundamentally change the way we consume. However, for the consumer products industry the challenge of defining robust solutions that line up with the environmental agenda requires creative use both of sustainable product and process technologies.

PA has extensive experience in defining breakthrough technical solutions that enable you to deliver products and processes as part of a robust sustainability agenda. PA’s wealth and depth of technical knowledge, delivered through many of our PhD scientists and engineers, has identified, for example, solutions relating to bioresins, energy saving process technologies, component/weight reduction programmes and alternative power solutions.
Migrating to sustainable supply chains
Meet customer expectations with tangible steps to improve your sustainability position right across the supply chain and product lifecycle.
Companies need to translate sustainability ambitions into demonstrable actions through their entire supply chain.
PA can help you in three key areas:
- creating a pragmatic understanding of your carbon footprint and key emission sources, resulting in robust implementable solutions
- enabling your purchasing power to be leveraged in order to drive socially responsible sourcing
- defining sustainable strategies and policies that can be communicated both internally and externally to drive engagement and buy-in from all relevant parties.

Utilising green IT
Maximising your green IT impact while minimising your carbon footprint.
Approximately two tonnes of C02 are generated during a PC’s lifecycle from manufacture to disposal, much of which comes from energy usage. Up to 50% of energy costs can be cut by replacing out of date equipment, configuring systems according to differentiated processing needs, buying multi-functional devices - and by simply ensuring equipment is turned off after use.
At PA, we believe that green IT goes beyond reducing energy consumption and optimising physical infrastructure. Smart information systems can play a key role in communicating and delivering your green agenda. Examples include using interactive e-channels to educate global consumers and implementing sustainability compliance systems to ensure standards are adhered to through global supply chains.
