Roads
Making road transport safe, reliable, sustainable
A combination of economic growth, expanding market places and increased social mobility is placing an increasing strain on our roads. Congestion is spreading from a few major cities and routes across more and more of our networks. Road accidents continue to be at a level that is unacceptable despite recent reductions. Environmental impacts of road travel continue to increase again positive developments in road and vehicle engineering.
PA has been centrally involved with government and its agencies in addressing the 'roads issue' from policy conception through to programme deployment and operational performance improvement. Our work covers personal, public transport and heavy goods vehicles. We have also worked with major supplier consortia in delivering roads management services to government and with automotive engineering companies in developing telematics systems. We have also in-depth experience of vehicle and driver licensing and insurance services.
Our work in road pricing and electronic tolling spans 10 years and three continents. We have worked in developing appropriate business and commercial models, technologies and systems and deploying live services for both personal and heavy goods vehicles. We have been at the forefront of exploiting new technologies for enhancing the safe use of roads, in providing information for road users and providing operational information to road network and vehicle operational managers. We developed transport and roads strategies and plans for London, new management arrangements for the UK's busiest motorways, and intelligent models that provide information to manage vehicle flows and incidents on strategic road networks.
