Maximizing the business benefits of identity management

In today’s current climate, deploying the best possible security procedures for international travel is the industry's top priority. However, to date the increase in international, national and local security regulations has come at a significant cost to the travel operator. Port operators’ revenues are reduced as regulations limit the time available for travellers to browse retail services, and as a result the customer experience suffers as travellers become frustrated with the new restrictions.

Improving security involves having a better knowledge of the individual. New technologies, including biometrics, are being touted as the answer to improving identity management in the travel environment. Although the reality of a globally integrated and locally available biometric identity system is still years away, the travel industry’s need to improve identity management to offset the effects of increased security is urgent.
