Shareholder Value management – ready for prime time?
Managing for Shareholder Value – often promised, less often delivered
Chief executives of publicly owned companies in the UK are fully aware that their primary duty is to their shareholders. The 1990s developed as the decade in which dedication to Managing for Shareholder Value took root, and tools and techniques for maximizing Shareholder Value were beginning to prove their worth.
Like any large-scale change program, creating a culture of management for Shareholder Value can take years to embed. Nonetheless, several UK companies have successfully embarked on this voyage and are beginning to deliver extra value to their shareholders. In a few isolated cases one or two UK companies, having started this process over a decade ago, are now enjoying the giant-sized benefits that can come from a dedicated and sustained effort to manage the corporation for maximum Shareholder Value.
