Shared services in the private sector
A solution that guarantees savings
Shared services is a sure route to cost savings. However, companies are now at a critical juncture. In order to sustain the success and improve on savings ahead, they must be bolder, more creative and more ambitious with their approach to shared services.
Stretching the scope of services, moving to a pan-regional or global model, and outsourcing specific services are all considerations for business leaders looking to maximise the potential of their shared services.
PA case study Rapidly achieving major reductions in cost and headcount
PA worked with this leading UK-based retail bank to improve its HR delivery. The project involved over 75,000 employees worldwide and more than 50 business units in the UK.
At a time when intensifying competition made it essential that every support function was highly efficient, the existing decentralised HR support service was fragmented, inefficient and costly.
PA worked with the bank to design a new operational model for its HR function which would match and exceed best-in-class standards of efficiency and service.
PA's solution was a one-stop, customer-centric HR shared service centre (SSC) owned and operated in-house. Implementation of this SSC quickly met targets of a 38% reduction in costs and 44% reduction in headcount, achieving these milestones one year ahead of schedule.
