Shared services in government
A pivotal role in achieving efficiency and customer service goals
A growing number of public sector organisations are finding that shared services is an exciting mechanism for achieving efficiency and service improvement. What is more, shared services means budgets can be shifted from administration to frontline, customer-facing activities – ultimately enhancing government performance.
PA case study Shared services optimisation
PA supported this national transport organisation of 11,000 employees to develop and improve service quality and reduce costs within HR, finance, communications, facility management, legal affairs and real estate.
The work resulted in a multidisciplinary Corporate Services Centre employing 800 staff. The centre now delivers a broad range of products and services which were previously delivered by 16 separate units. By introducing the Corporate Services Centre a staff reduction of 600 FTE (41%) was achieved.
The Centre was created in 18 months, from concept to implementation. This unprecedented speed of execution was achieved through a seamless interplay of people processes and ICT, while maintaining a constant focus on service delivery excellence against cost reduction.
