Marketing

Securing extensive press coverage for a key PA research survey

  • The business need:  Secure high-profile media coverage for PA’s outsourcing research survey report, aiming for press coverage in the Financial Times.  The report faced competition for journalists’ attention with similar reports from competitors.
  • What we did:  Developed concept of an FT/PA outsourcing ‘panel’ of key experts, which would be made up of PA consultants, as well as representatives from the other typical players in an outsourcing deal:  lawyers, suppliers, and the buyers.
  • The results:  Over a period of four months, the survey report and this panel approach generated two articles in the Financial Times and five pieces on ft.com focusing on the discussion. Our approach also included a live Webinar hosted by PA experts, where we responded in real time to outsourcing questions, as well as an online surgery where FT readers could ask questions.

Human Resources

Making PA the company of choice for high-calibre consultants

  • The business need:  Ensure PA ranks as one of the best places to work in the consulting industry, with the most up-to-date policies and processes in place, making sure that PA can recruit and retain the best people in our industry.
  • What we did:  Swift implementation of the new Age Discrimination regulations in the United Kingdom. This has involved interpreting the law and its implications for PA, and ensuring that all managers are aware of their responsibilities under the law and what actions they must take to comply.
  • The results:  Full roll-out of new approach, from amending policies and procedures, such as retirement and pensions, to communicating the changes to all our people.

Finance

Centralising accounting and finance support to cut costs and increase efficiency

  • The business need:  Centralise accounting and finance support in Asia Pacific to Kuala Lumpur to cut costs, increase efficiency, and achieve economy of scale.
  • What we did:  Managed the transition to Kuala Lumpur from planning and project management to execution and post-implementation monitoring, including working with our IT colleagues on system assurance and our HR team on recruitment. 
  • The results:  The Kuala Lumpur centralised team was successfully established, with a smooth transfer of processes. It now provides robust accounting support, financial reporting, payment processing, fund management, and various other finance services to PA’s 11 offices in eight countries across Asia Pacific.

Company Secretariat  

Introducing childcare ‘eVouchers’

  • The business need:  Ensure PA has a leading-edge compensation philosophy, introducing smart, tax-efficient schemes that reward and incentivise staff.
  • What we did:  Introduced a childcare eVoucher scheme in partnership with a leading voucher provider, managing childcare payments through a leading-edge on-line system.
  • The results:  The scheme reduces childcare costs by delivering a portion of monthly salary in childcare eVouchers, which are highly tax efficient and effectively increase the user’s overall pay.

Operations & Administration

Providing our people with the best environment to do their work effectively

  • The business need:  Provide high-tech, high-quality work environments to ensure our people are best placed to deliver high-value client work.
  • What we did:  Oversaw a complex and wide-ranging refurbishment programme to PA’s Research and Development campus in Cambridge, United Kingdom, ensuring that there was no interruption to business-as-usual.
  • The results:  Rejuvenated our landmark Richard Rogers-designed building, providing a high-quality working environment for our product development and other technology staff.

Information Services

Managing our client relationships effectively

  • The business need:  Ensure that our account management, client relationship management, and marketing programmes are supported by accurate and accessible client contact details.
  • What we did:  Designed and implemented a global programme to check and clean some 175,000 client and contact details, including adding industry sectors and stock exchange rankings.
  • The results:  Marketing campaigns can now be effectively tailored to target the right potential and existing clients, with an effective system in place for keeping contact details accurate and up-to-date.

Group Systems

Delivering secure access for a highly mobile workforce

  • The business need:  Having remote access to information is essential to a fast-moving company like PA, and our consultants need to be kept up-to-date with the latest information, accessible by the most convenient method available to them. However, the security of that access is also paramount.
  • What we did:  Developed and implemented a new access portal available to any Internet-ready PC - The PA Secure Entry Point. The solution was then delivered across the PA world, from Colorado to Azerbaijan.
  • The results:  Conventional wisdom suggests that increased security would prove more restrictive to the user, but the PA Secure Entry Point solution is user-friendly, highly accessible, and secure.
