Powercor executive, Norm McIlfatrick has joined the energy services division of the leading management consulting firm, PA Consulting Group.
Former Manager of Customer Services at Powercor, Mr McIlfatrick has more than 20 years experience in the Australian electricity industry.
"We are very pleased to welcome Norm to PA during a period of profound and fundamental change within the Australian energy industry," said a spokesman for PA Consulting Group.
"PA’s energy group is at the leading edge of many of these changes including the restructuring of the Victorian gas industry, the development and implementation of diversification and growth strategies for electricity industry participants, and customer driven change projects.
"To assist energy organisations in meeting the challenges of the reform agenda, PA is continuing to recruit respected industry leaders such as Norm."
Mr McIlfatrick brings to PA a high level of experience in the energy industry having held marketing, customer service and technical services positions in the areas of transmission, distribution and retail.
Joining Powercor Australia in 1995 as Manager, Engineering Services, Mr McIlfatrick was responsible for the delivery of a strategic customer focus to the company's engineering and technical functions.
During his time at Powercor, he was instrumental in the facilitation of the company’s organisational change programmes based on its Network Development Plan and supporting the sale of Powercor to Pacificorp (US based utility).
In 1996, Mr McIlfatrick was appointed Manager of Customer Service where he formed part of the retail management team during the early part of the contestable market development in Victoria. During this time, he was responsible for the 1996 strategic business planning for the retail function of Powercor, the most successful company in the deregulated market in Victoria.
According to Mr McIlfatrick many companies will be looking to the Victorian Electricity market deregulation to help them accelerate their learning curve as NSW and other states move towards privatisation.
"PA is gearing its operations to assist emerging energy companies to transition successfully into the competitive market," said Mr McIlfatrick. "I am very pleased to be part of a team that is backed by high level management consulting expertise, in-depth local industry experience and international experience in change management within the UK utilities marketplace."
Between 1995 and 1977, Mr McIlfatrick held a number of positions with the Hydro Electric Commission in Tasmania. Prior to leaving the Commission, he was Manager of Domestic Sales, responsible Customer Connection Services and Service Centre Operations and the Commission call centre.
