Speaking at the Awards, Taoiseach Bertie Ahern TD said; “One of the things that I most like about these awards is that they recognise that no matter how innovative, visionary or industrious the head of any organisation is, it is not possible to thrive and prosper in today's competitive marketplace without the right management team and systems.”
Dr. Michael Maguire, Country Head, PA Consulting said; “The “Ahead of the Curve” report of the Enterprise Strategy Group on Ireland’s future clearly showed management capability to be one of the “essential conditions” of international competitiveness within the entire economy. Each of our finalists epitomise the spirit of management excellence which will drive our future economic success. I congratulate each of them, and in particular our Award winners O2 and Xsil”.
Ms. Fiona McHugh, Editor, The Sunday Times said; “We are delighted to honour the men and women whose vision and hard work have made a resounding success of their companies. We are especially pleased that these awards pay tribute to the teams behind those accomplishments since, as we all know, the success of a company is seldom attributable to any one individual.”

O2 as a small start-up entrepreneurial company has emerged from the Celtic Tiger boom of the late 1990s and today is recognised as one of the most successful and respected mobile communications providers in Europe.
The management team, led by Danuta Gray has grown the company consistently in the face of radical change including de-merging from BT and a change in brand. Employing 1,600, with an average employee age of 29, O2 has focused on innovation and customer service to build and expand its market in an increasingly competitive environment.
The judges citation read; “Despite significant organisational changes, and stages of rapid growth, the management team have embraced major challenges, realised and benefited from exciting new opportunities and pushed the boundaries of the Irish mobile market in terms of customer growth, network quality and customer service”.

Winner: Xsil Limited Xsil was founded in 2000 by Peter Conlon, Pat Rainsford and a small group of key engineers and scientists.
