Workshop will feature tools and techniques for effective delivery of innovative products
New York, NY – PA Consulting Group will sponsor Frost & Sullivan’s Medical Devices 2005 Executive Summit, to be held on 13-17 March , 2005 at the Hyatt at Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco. The firm also announced that Daniel F. Walsh, Jr., a member of PA’s Management Group, will be leading an interactive workshop at the event titled “Delivering Innovative Products: Effective Innovation Needs Discipline” on 14 March at 3:45 pm.
This workshop will provide attendees with a set of valuable tools and techniques that will help them and their organizations more effectively deliver innovative products – across all business functions. The workshop is also designed to teach attendees to investigate ways of focusing and managing innovation and innovative thinking in a manner that benefits customers and the organization.
Attendees will learn how to understand customer and user needs and determine technology options and strategies through the use of Voice of the Customer and technology roadmaps. They will utilize techniques such as Quality Function Deployment, Form/Function Matrix, and the Universe Matrix to define product requirements and technology risks. They will also be able to investigate and communicate what will drive or constrain their target market using tools such as market modeling and PA’s own FutureWorlds, a process designed to quantify market environments at a future point in time by identifying various drivers in the market.
PA developed FutureWorlds to help organizations build a coherent view of the future, as a guide to both strategic planning and new product development. FutureWorlds provides a framework to bridge the significant gap between great ideas and actually bringing them to life. This is achieved facilitating creation of a shared vision between marketing and technical functions, and then carefully constructing a series of scenarios to facilitate the team’s understanding of how the future could unfold. These scenarios are used to generate insights into consumers’ likely desires and what new products would have to deliver against. Once a dialogue has been established around these worlds, it is easier for the group to exchange their ideas, by exploiting the reference point that FutureWorlds provides.
According to Walsh, “Innovation is not just novelty, but novel solutions to problems. Innovation should answer the question, ‘In what way can I best solve this issue?’ This workshop will help attendees learn how to define the issues in tangible terms, but answer the questions as completely as possible and use tools to help a team to focus on the critical elements of a solution set and constrain the solutions to fit the problem.”
