Jardine Engineering Corporation (JEC), a subsidiary of the Hong-Kong-based conglomerate Jardine Matheson, provides comprehensive engineering services, contracting, building products and equipment to the construction and property sector in Hong Kong. The 2001-2003 slump in property values hit JEC’s market hard, with fewer projects underway, and reduced lease values brought building maintenance costs into sharp focus. JEC’s market for both new-build and maintenance had become fiercely price-competitive and it had seen its profit eroded to almost break-even levels. PA worked with JEC to identify potential improvements, build confidence, and implement a complex change programme, which has improved profit and left JEC in a healthy position to grow.
