Working with RAS to make Australia's biggest annual event happen
Australia's Royal Agricultural Society (RAS) of New South Wales is responsible for the Sydney Royal Easter Show, a tradition ingrained in Australia's culture. The show, held over 16 days, is the sixth largest agricultural event in the world and is Australia's biggest annual event. It generates more than $300 million in revenue, thanks partly to 400 organizations' commercial exhibitions, 800 performers entertaining the crowds and over 35,000 competition entries. But, after 115 years at their old inner city location, the show needed to relocate to the new Olympic Precinct at Homebush Bay.
PA helped the RAS prepare and manage this complex undertaking by providing project and program management support, from relocating to the new site to the staging of the first show. At the new site the Sydney Royal Easter Show achieved record attendance of almost 1.3 million visitors. The ability of the RAS to adjust its operations, and its willingness to learn valuable lessons throughout the Show, is a tribute to the staff, management and council of the RAS.
The opening of the Sydney Showground and Exhibition Complex at Homebush Bay, and its associated public transport facilities, also resulted in the successful commissioning and testing of the initial Olympic facilities and transport system.
"PA's support was integral to the success of the Show at Homebush Bay. Without their help the successful move by the RAS to Homebush Bay would not have been an easy transition."
