Turning strategy into reality
A strategic transformation to nearly double the business to £1 billion by 2011
PA helped Norwich Union Healthcare (NUHC) towards achieving the strategic transformation of nearly doubling the size of its business to £1 billion by 2011, while aggressively reducing operational costs by around 15% year on year.
Previous involvement by other strategic consultants had focused on a theoretical approach that had neither created a clear link into execution nor led to skills transfer. PA’s approach was strongly implementation focused and committed to embedding capabilities at every stage.
PA firstly validated NUHC's strategy to confirm what needed to be built to deliver the targets. We then installed a robust decision-making approach and model for implementation, and embedded the capability for the strategy to be developed in-house after PA's departure. All this while also ensuring that the client would still meet its short-term 2007 targets.
The results are astounding: NUHC is continuing along a growth curve, nearly doubling (97%) new business since 2004, while total revenues are up 46% since 2005 and savings for 2007 are running 10% ahead of target. NUHC has confirmed significant efficiencies by prioritising the delivery of capabilities, such as self-service and automation, on target to achieve an industry-leading expense ratio.
