Schoeller Wavin Systems
Flexible concept for innovative container manufacturing and product switching
Schoeller Wavin Systems (SWS) is Europe's market-leading manufacturer of innovative transport, storage and display solutions for a large number of leading brands in the beverage industry. The company operates in a rapidly expanding market for innovative recycling systems, which has been made all the more competitive through Germany's introduction of a new recycling law on the purchase of tinned goods against a deposit, which is reimbursed on return of the re-cyclable container.
This situation implies that tins will be increasingly replaced by bottles for the mass consumer market. SWS could benefit from this trend with increased orders and higher profit margins, but it recognised it could not achieve this unless it adopted a modular and technically flexible container production method.
PA Consulting Group researched which production method and technology would best meet current and future requirements and, together with the client, developed options for implementation which were evaluated according to the level of investment required, cost savings, increased capacity and associated risks. PA subsequently designed the conversion process for the new production process. The new method of manufacturing has reduced the production cycle by 15% and product switching is carried out with savings in time, materials and human resources.
