The mobile industry has been struggling with the issue of Intellectual Property ever since the days of GSM. Intellectual Property – particularly Essential patents – are a hot topic, but one that is often misrepresented.
The general press gets excited about high-profile, but rare, litigation cases between the big vendors and the sometimes aggressive behaviour of equally rare patent trolls. The real issues of Intellectual Property are to do with innovation, technology and standardisation.
