Exploit the benefits of virtual worlds and participatory media
People are increasingly used to exploiting innovative new technologies in their private lives, including participatory media such as MySpace and Wikipedia. So, if organisations are to adapt to this new generation of customers, business partners and employees, they must understand and incorporate these new tools and ways of working into their digital business strategy.
Participatory media's latest phenomenon is the 3D virtual world known as Second Life (SL), which is making headlines in the national, business and IT press as real-world businesses start to build a presence in this world. Sony, Toyota and Adidas are examples of companies that have identified the potential and have opened offices or outlets there. Organisations are now quickly moving beyond using SL for specific promotional activities, exploiting its technologies for business applications such as recruitment, scenario and product modelling, new product familiarisation, 'war rooms' and conflict resolution.
At PA Consulting Group we know from experience that exploiting new technologies successfully is key to business success. We explore new ways of collaboratively working within SL, which allows us to identify the benefits available to organisations from having a virtual presence and adopting virtual world technologies.
We believe the possible benefits of integrating participatory media such as Second Life into your digital business strategy can not be ignored.
